Really enjoyed your great review. I reconcile the theme somewhat differently. I like the explanation in the rule book that you get to use the villains representing the experience that you acquired when you defeated them. I also consider the other cards to represent the other heroes helping your super hero on his mission. You are Flash and play heated vision representing Superman giving you a hand.I just don't agree with some of your comments regarding Legendary and Sentinels. I rate all these 3 games in the 9-10 range. They are all great games. I consider Legendary and DC a wash. They play very similarly. You get a bit more variety and tension from Legendary at the cost of a few more rules and set up. Both games are worth it but if somebody just wants one, either would do.
Sentinels is a completely different game with a lot of merit. It's variety and replayabilitymis unmatched. The uniqueness of each hero, the narrative are not present in any other super hero game so far. I don't think you should have choose between DC vs Sentinels. If you can only buy one, choose now but save money and buy the other later on.
