The Enhanced version of Sentinels has a scaling mechanism for villains and retcons the first edition cards to have it as well. It also provides trackers, although we rarely bother with them. The trackers (basically poker chips) seem more trouble than they're worth. We just use two 10-sided dice, or a sliding tracker on a laminate card that some fan site created. I'll use the conditiuon trackers in demo games, if there are several modifiers going on at the same time. If there's only one, like "Legacy gives everyone +1 damage pretty much ever turn of the game", or with experienced players, we don't bother.
The main strength of Sentinels is, as noted, that it gives the strongest feeling of customized superheroes with specific powers. Of course, it's not a deckbuilder, so it can do that. Does Cyborg the character card really "feel" like Cyborg? Aquaman like Aquaman in the comics? As I noted on another threat, I don't think you could build a deckbuilder that specialized, though.
