I don't think it's a question of being too forgiving. The issue with this - and Legendary, or Nightfall, or virtually *any* game on BGG (not just deckbuilders) that has a theme, is what one's definition of "theme" is.Complaints against like this based on mechanics and what cards are used and in which combinations are taken literally by some players, where as others are able to "rationalize" the "Batman with heat vision and non-union villains" so-called problems. Where as others don't need to make a rationalization to play this game at all.
All games are abstractions, not literal interpretations. Even "adaptation" games of various other sources - comic book universes, books (Pillars of the Earth, Name of the Rose), etc. - are never able to be completely faithful to the source. Nor should they.
