Hello Everyone,

I'm coming into this conversation late (having posted about this game in other threads earlier), but I've got a few comments, if no one minds.

I'm a bit confused why it is valid to claim someone 'lacks imagination' if they dislike the choices the game creators made.

For everyone out there that enjoys imagining something happening when seeing a random selection of cards come up--that's great, and I'm glad that you're able to create your own fun from this, but that doesn't counter the point that the game itself is quite lacking in actual gameplay that represents much of anything about the DC universe in any particularly specific way.

What I mean by that is easily demonstrated by noting that this exact same mechanic is used for Lord of the Rings. It IS NOT to say that the individual cards have nothing to do with elements in DC comics. The individual cards are OK in those terms, but with the overall mechanic being so light, it can only go so far.

And that's the issue as I see it. This is an extremely light mechanic, which cannot support much depth--of ANY property slapped on top of it.

And that's where (some) Fans of DC might take issue (I'm one of them). The DC Universe is a very rich property with TONS of interesting elements, which in my opinion would be well suited to a game with much more depth.

To me, taking a grade-A property like the DC Universe, and applying it to a game that has very little depth is a waste, and to me a disappointment.

For people stating that you're not playing a specific hero. Well, hard to argue against that as it turns out, but the game sort of leads you to believe that is what you will be doing. You DO pick a specific hero, and there is some benefit to playing in a certain way based on that hero (Equipment for Batman, "speedy" (card draw) for Flash, Super Powers for Superman, etc). But it doesn't go any farther.

So, if you want a light, fast, non-deep game--well, you're the big winner, because that what this game is. But that doesn't make people who hoped for a more interesting, deeper and somewhat more complex game that is designed to represent the DC Universe, instead of some generic game system, wrong. It just means that we have different priorities in gaming.

Let me reiterate a point there. This IS a Generic game system with a veneer of DC layered over it. That's not an opinion--that's a choice the game company made. They took a very broad property with a 75 year history and some of the most famous characters around, and matched it with one of the most simplistic, generic game systems around.

That choice is beyond disappointing for me, and in my opinion a huge waste of a great property.
