Thanks!A buddy of mine and I tried a variant today (including my custom Reverse Flash, Prometheus, and Paradise Island Cards- along with Red Tornado, Green Arrow, and Plastic Man Super Hero cards). We shuffled all the super heroes together (adding in a few of the customs made here so we each had 5 super heroes each). When a super villain’s first attack happens and you can’t defend it, that super hero is KO’d/killed and the new super hero is revealed until all of your super heroes are defeated in this fashion (if you can block the attack you continue to play with that super hero). After all of a player’s super heroes are defeated, the game is over regardless of any super villains left standing (I believe we were going to split their point value down the middle and count the super villains number against each players final total- essentially treating it as weakness card that both players get for failing to stop him).
Our game ended with me going through all of my superheroes and only Darkseid was left remaining (we forgot to tally him into our final count). My friend on the other hand still had three heroes he hadn’t yet played-- but unlike me who never was able to play any block cards, he was able to play Super Speed and avoid the attacks.
So it makes for an interesting mechanic- and definitely more random. Like my friend said, you can’t exactly plan out how your deck is going to flesh out for you if you only build it based on the ability of your current superhero. At ANY time, you could lose Batman- AND his equipment special bonus- making all those previously purchased equipment card less than amazing (but still playable).
It made the game go by a lot faster—and with shorter totals. Me with 30, my friend with 37. An interesting way to play if you want to see how all the super heroes differ and if you only have a short amount of time to get in a quick game.
