I'll keep this short and sweet. I like the DC deck building game quite a bit, and value its simplicity, accessibility, and fun. However, I think with an expansion or two, they could crank this game up past the "7" rating many of us seem to be giving it to an 8 or 9. Here's how I think they could do that:1. Have Weakness cards be a bigger part of the game. It sounds like they might be doing so with the "Corruption" cards in their LoTR mimic game, and I think it's a good idea. I think emphasizing Weakness cards and also giving players more opportunities to cull them would make this game feel more strategic.
2. Similar to #1, make "attacks" and "defenses" be a bigger part of the game. Deck-builders need player interactivity, and while I like the basics of the attack rule in this game, it feels like a missed opportunity. Attacks and defenses just don't happen as often as they should - which is why Weakness cards don't seem to impact play very much.
3. There should be more cards that let you "deny" valuable cards in the line-up to other players. Steal another idea from Ascension. Let's say you're up against Wonder Woman. If you had a couple cards in your deck that let you discard cards directly from the line-up, you could deny her Villains without necessarily having to recruit them yourself. That kind of interactivity, again, is wonderful in deck-builders.
So, really, if the expansion came with more "attack" oriented cards and some card-denial cards, I would be thrilled. The flavor is great, the art is great, the rules are nicely streamlined - this game just needs a little more interactivity to really shine.
