One of great things about DCC DBG is the artwork. Beautiful comic book artwork depicting the different DC heroes was done very well. I also love that they let the artwork be a focal point on most of the cards. I am really glad that Cryptozoic went all out for this portion of the game. The only thing that I didn't much care for on the artwork was the reverse of the cards. Instead of referring to the game on the backside of the cards, there is a large Cryptozoic Entertainment logo. I can't remember ever seeing this in a game before. I wish that the backsides of the cards would have brought in more from the DC world, but the front side of the cards make up for it.

The artwork is all comic book art, mostly right from the pages of the books in the New 52, so that's why I think it stands out as being so good. I agree about the back of the cards, but I think it's because the other games using the Cerberus engine were supposed to all be compatible so you could mix and match, but I could be wrong about that.

Good review! I completely agree that the game lacks innovation. The theme isn't that far off (batman uses equipment cards well, The Flash can cycle his deck quicker), but it's not as thematic is Battlestar Galactica or other games I've played. It's fun, offers nothing new, but if you love comics, and like deckbuilding games, you can't go wrong.

I traded it away because I had my one thematic deck building game (Star Trek: TOS DBG.

On a side note, they made some tweaks to the way the engine works for the LotR DBG, and I think that game works a bit better (more defense cards, the big baddy cards are tiered...). DC is still fun, and LotR is also fun, they're not different enough to warrant having both, but it really would come down to which art you like looking at: DC Comics art, or screencaps from the LotR movies.
