It`s a DECKBUILDING GAME usually the theme is at best cosmetic, in the end is a card game and like Magic the gathering are beauty draws with game effects written, you feel like i felt for Magic TG long time before.

I want to enjoy the "theme" but i know that being a deckbuilder i would see such things.

Excusing thematic flaws based on the type of game only makes sense if there aren't alternatives. No cosmic force came along and said that the DC game HAD to be a deckbuilding game, or that it had to use common pools of cards. They could have taken a lot of approaches. If they picked mechanics that are a poor fit for the theme (perhaps on the grounds of "deckbuilding games are popular right now!"), that's a very valid complaint.

Most of the deckbuilders I've seen make an attempt to link card effects to theme. In Dominion, you use Copper, Silver and Gold to buy things. Having a Festival gives you more money to buy things. That makes sense.

In Thunderstone, you use gold to buy things. How exactly the gold on the items makes sense thematically is not clear, but you've still got a a lot of theme in terms of defeating monsters giving you treasure, rogues giving you treasure, etc.

In DC, you punch and kick to buy things. That's a much bigger thematic disconnect. "Wham! Pow! Socko! Biff! Now I've got a Batmoble!"

Generally when I look at the theme in games, I think in terms both of the picture "does this all make sense?" and the details of special abilities and cards. In a well done thematic game, if you understand the mechanics you can make a solid guess about what a card does based just on the name/art of the card.

Thunderstone Flaming Sword? What do you know, it gives a bonus to fighting and provides light.

Dominion Thief? Yep, it steals money from your opponents.

DC King of Atlantis? Oh, it gives a bonus for each water location in...oh, no it doesn't. Um, it gives a bonus to all the Atlantean cards you...nope, not that either.
Wait, it lets you destroy discarded cards for power? :what:

How strong a theme should we expect out of a DC super-hero game? I'd say a LOT. If I'm picking up a super-heroes game, I picking it up for the theme. I want a very strong connection between mechanics and gameplay. I want to feel like the heroes are really using the cool powers in ways that make sense for the power.

At the moment, it doesn't look like DC is going to deliver in that regard. Granted, so far we don't have a lot to go based on.
