Copper is a reusable coin. That makes no sense whatsoever without applying our own theme to it.
Dominion actually makes quite a bit of thematic sense overall. Each turn represents a long period of time; perhaps a season or so. Your hand represents the resources available to you at the time. Draw VP cards? You're busy overseeing and managing your holdings rather than doing something more expansive.
There's no reason to have to think that it's literally the same coin over and over again. I mean, in a eurogame, do you ever get puzzled when you put a "wood" cube back in the supply and then another person takes the exact same wood you just used to build a ship?
Longspear DOES say "Play for +2 Gold though", and that doesn't make any sense.
Well, no, it doesn't. It has a gold symbol in the corner, which means you can use that card for gold instead of using it as a longspear. That may be thematically weak, but it's also not the point of the card.
In this story, we're telling a new Batman story, in which he gets X-Ray vision through some crazy lab experiment.
You're really missing the entire point of "theme", aren't you?
