Revealed cards are simply that, revealed. Played cards, on the other hand, do not go back to where they were played from unless otherwise stated by the card.
Keep in mind that when a card like X-Ray Vision or Shazam! has you play a card, it enters play away from where it was played and only returns after the card is finished resolving.
