The key difference between PA and other deck builders are the "bosses" and "boss loot". Basically, instead of trying to get enough resources to buy victory point cards which are useless until end game, you try to get enough resources to defeat the bosses. When you defeat a boss you get a boss loot card that gives you victory points AND a powerful ability. Each boss level has a certain amount of boss loots and once all of the loot of a certain level is gone, the boss levels up and becomes harder to defeat. The game essentially uses 2 resources and has a boss for each resource. The newest penny arcade added hybrid cards and a hybrid boss which has insane boss loot if you can manage to defeat it.Another important thing to note about the PA deck builders is that every single card in the game (except the starting deck cards) is worth some amount of victory points.
