Two issues with what you are saying.
1. buying a kick also negates the effects of a weakness card in terms of VP. Skipping a turn and buying another dead card are basically the same thing.
2. Unrelated to the weakness thing, but our play group that created this house rule of the special punch starter card created it because the issue with the game isnt the lack of ko cards on its own. The real problem is that the person that buys heat vision on turn 3 is going to win the game unless other KO cards pop up quickly. Even then, that person is more likely to be able to buy it, and its a vicious cycle. We created the house rule so that even the person that never sees a KO card that they can buy has a shot.
