I personally disagree with the statement that DC has no depth at all. The proof of this is that while anyone can win, players who choose cards and play cards more carefully tend to prevail.
Your "proof" is countered by the brand new player at our game who simply bought up as many cards as possible every turn who, once she got her first supervillian, continued to get them all. Several turns she just laid all her cards out and asked us to count up all the bonuses because the combos were too much (around 12 cards and 22 power). She won by a landslide, naturally.
Well, anecdotal evidence on these things is mostly useless. But I catch your drift. I don't think MantaScorp is wrong though, he did say "tend to" not "will". The thing is even a new player could luck out but certainly being aware of what cards are out there will give you a better chance of winning. Like being aware that if you have a ton of weaknesses it's a good thing to buy Bizzaro and if you don't you might want to buy something else. Also hate buying can be useful (he has three suicide squads so if we let him buy that fourth one we're really in trouble) and that kind of thing.
The truth lies somewhere between these statements. There is strategy and buying with a strategy in mind and playing to the strengths of your character helps your chances, but luck can still beat you, it is a game after all and luck is a perfectly legitimate design philosophy when making a game.
Obviously I like the game as it fills several criteria I had in mind when buying it. I have a lot of deck builders at home that focus on strategy first, it was refreshing to have one that focuses mostly on fun with some strategy thrown in to make sure your choices do matter.
