Maybe there are gameplay reasons why the whole hand of cards has to be discarded each turn?

:)

Check out the Ongoing cards in DC Comics Deck-Building Game: Teen Titans

This is a fantastic reply, because it's the whole point of the Ongoing cards, and Teen Titans is loaded with them. We've played several games of TT and players will find themselves with 3, 4, 5, even 6 Ongoing cards in front of them they're able to utilize on any given subsequent turn. Very much second Dekan's recommendation.

Thunderstone Advance has a 'Prepare' action, where you don't do anything that turn, but can retain any number of cards from your hand when you draw up to a new one.

Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!

Would that involve discarding a number of cards and then drawing that number of cards (to bring your hand up to, say, 5 cards)?
:)

Hopefully someone can settle a rule disagreement between me and my husband.
(sorry I can't remember the exact card names, I don't want to pull the box out right now)

If you change the colour of a card, does that change the card type? For example if some how I make a hero card red, is it still a hero, or is it a villain now because it's red?

Hope that makes sense, thanks in advance.

The color of a card and its type remain separate. If a Hero card is changed to be red for its color, it is still a Hero.

The same is true when a card becomes or gains a new type that the color of the card does not change.

Thread: DC Comics Deck-Building Game:: Variants:: Transformers set

So, having played this, and the Street Fighter deckbuilder, quite a lot, I decided to put together a Transformers set.

In terms of rules, it's pretty much the same game as Street Fighter, with a few changes, so it basically plays the same as a DC Deckbuilder game with a few extra changes on top:

There's a Transform Phase at the start of the round, before you do anything else, to switch between modes if you want to.

Instead of a Super-Villain stack, there's an "Event" stack and a "Transformation" stack. The Transformation that is showing shows you the cost of buying the card. When you buy it, you flip the event and that's what happens to you. The "Counter-Attack" keyword is just the same as "First-Appearance - Attack".

Having played it through a fair bit, the superheroes seem fairly balanced, although given the number that I've added over time it's possible something's slipped through the net.

I used the "Blank DC" template for Magic Set editor to make the cards, which I absolutely can't take any credit for.

http://forums.cryptozoic.com/showthread.php?t=33881

I then added a new folder for the "Superhero Size" cards, and altered the "Style" file to accomodate the size.

The four MSE files are here, as is the super-sized style file.

I've used artwork that's available on public sites, predominantly www.tfwiki.net, so hopefully that avoids any copyright violations!

Thread: DC Comics Deck-Building Game:: Rules:: Locations card clarification

The manual says Locations "will remain face up and in play". From a literal interpretation then, if I have two Location cards that have already been previously played (and therefor are ongoing), then for every hand I play from that time one, I only need one additional card with a different name with a cost of 1 or more to activate the Super Hero Green Lantern, correct? ...because the two Locations count as 2 of the 3 card required by Green Lantern.

NOTE: the italics is a paraphrased portion of the following Green Lantern card text. Green Lantern: If you play three or more cards with different names and cost 1 or more during your turn, +3 Power.

Another question, can one card played activate multiple Locations? For example, playing a first Hero card that also happens to be the first card played with cost 2 or 3 wil activate both Location cards, Titans Tower and The Watchtower, correct?

Apologies - not sure why, but my Google Drive had sharing switched off. It's now on, you should be able to see it now.

Locations played on a previous turn are "in-play" but are not "played" again this turn. Green Lantern needs three differently-named cards to be played on the same turn.

Correct.

It's 404-ing for me. Might be easier to put them up as images here?

Got it. I think I can see now that while the Location cards are "in play" ongoing, they are only "played" during whatever turn they were originally played.

However, cryptozoic's manual should probably clarify or alternatively just not use the root word "play" in both the terms "Played" and "In play", just for clarity's sake. Off the top of my head, "In effect" would be a pretty good term to replace "In play"...achieves the same intended result, but can't be confused as a synonym with "Played" like "In play" can.

Thanks for your answer, btw.

Teen Titans with all of its Ongoing cards, uses 'control' for cards that are in play on an ongoing basis and cards that you have played for the turn.

I don't remember off-hand what the rulebook says in the summary.

In the Teen Titans rulebook, Crypto started using the term "Control" to mean cards that are in-play. That solves your issue. :)
