Reply: DC Comics Deck-Building Game:: Variants:: Re: Custom Marvel Mini Expansion- Man-Thing

by freedfromthematrix2

I have been revisiting and reworking a lot of my old cards this was one of them. The main cards that were redone was Man-Thing and Marduk Kurios.

My reworking, I feel, keeps the same intent I had but makes them more playable and easier to understand.

Since the movie is about 2 weeks away, I decided to revisit this set and make improvements where needed.

We just got our first expansion and I've started looking at different comments regarding creating new decks...but one thing I haven't found is how you separate them back out??? Am I missing something because I can't see a quick difference to the decks. Dominion has an icon for each expansion, but I don't see that on the DC decks. Or do you just use a reference list and manually check what cards are from what deck?

I'm going to be so embarrassed if there's something on the cards I'm missing

Thread: DC Comics Deck-Building Game:: Rules:: Deck Size questions

by Stephens3012

Hello, I just recently got into the realm of deckbuilding and I am really enjoying the DC variant. Apologies if this has been addressed already but with the main game and a few expansions been purchased I have a few questions regarding deck sizes.

1. Does the deck size matter too much for competitive play as long as you have an equal amount of each card type? Or should you try to stick as close to the base 114 as possible?

2. For single player crisis mode, what is the recommended main deck size?

3. What is the recommended main deck size for multiplayer crisis mode? I see that there's a recommended supervillian deck size but if you wanted to play with all the supervillians, how many more cards would you have to add to the main deck to compensate?

And one last question just for clarification

4. Am I correct in assuming that an attempt to beat a crisis can happen at any point during a players turn, even after they have played/purchased cards as long as there are no villans in the lineup?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

1. You want to have consistent games that don't suddenly end after 12 rounds.
2. 100
3. 125-130
4. Correct

Heroes Unite does not have a symbol. It has a different copyright date though. All Crossover and Crisis cards and FE and TT are marked in the lower right of the card.

Thank you for the helpful reply, sorry just to expand on some of your answers:

1. I take that to mean that more is better as long as you have a roughly equal number of each card type in the main deck?

2. That's interesting, I tried it a few times solo with 106 main deck cards and all the impossible villains and still had quite a big chunk of the deck left by the end each time. I found that not having to co-ordinate beating crisis cards amongst other players made the game go a lot smoother. At this point is it really up to my own discretion on how to increase the difficulty (e.g putting 2 cards instead of 1 from the main deck into the lineup at the end of each of my turns)?

3. Does 125-130 work for 2,3,4 and 5 players or do you have to increase it with the number of people playing?

1. Sticking near 110-120 in each game is a good idea for the consistency I mentioned. More is not better.

2. Yes, solo is all about finding that sweet spot of challenge. If 100 is too easy for you, try 70 next time.

3. You do not increase it based on the number of players.

As stated, [original set] and Heroes Unite do not have a marker, along with some of the earlier Promo cards.

Every other card has a marker though, bottom right corner, near the card's cost (if it has a cost).
Some examples:
Bright Yellow for Crossover 1

Gray for Promo

Purple for Forever Evil

You'll want slightly fewer Super Powers relative to the other types, due to the Kick stack.

Thread: DC Comics Deck-Building Game:: Rules:: Ozymandias & Icicle end of turn procedures

by Stephens3012

Just a quick question regarding this interaction.

Superhero: Ozymandias (At the end of each of your turns, draw an extra card and then put a card from your hand on top of your deck)

Supervillain: Icicle (Choose a foe. That foe flips his super hero face down until the end of his next turn)

If an opponent uses icicle's effect on me thus turning ozymandias face down, would i be able to use ozymandius's effect next turn or not considering both the finish of icicles effect and ozymandius's effect happen at the end of my turn?

Seems like a good mix of the sets Max. Well done! The only question I have for you is how many of each card did you add? If you take every copy of each card that's on your list, that total is higher than your 118 total.

Flip to the back page of any rulebook. There is a specific end of turn procedure.
"End of turn" effects wear off
Then you discard all played cards and draw a new hand
Then you refill the line-up
Finally flip over a new Super Villain if needed.

Icicle would wear off in the first step, Ozymandis is step 2. So Ozymandis appears to be immune to Icicle.

Only one of each card.

Thank you for answering that for me, much appreciated.

Sorry I have one more quick question, I don't want to create yet another thread for it and had been hoping to edit my original post to include it but the site went down for maintenance haha.

For the final countdown crisis, do you still need to defeat all villains in the lineup before it can be attempted or can you include any villains there as part of the 2-7? I'm assuming the former but I just wanted to double check.

This is actually covered on page 9 of the Crisis 1 rulebook:
"Final Countdown: Note that you cannot destroy any Villains of those costs, as you cannot attempt to beat a Crisis until there are no Villains in the line-Up...."

Thread: DC Comics Deck-Building Game:: Variants:: Halloween Marvel Mini Expansion: Marvel Zombies

by freedfromthematrix2

My Usual Intro...
Inspired by the original custom ideas of Stu Anderson (andjosh05 https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1056972/marvel-expansion-av) and others in the variant section. I decided to add-on to the Marvel characters with character specific theme mini expansions instead of trying to make big boxed sets.

This is for entertainment purposes only. Not to be sold. All art work and characters belong to Marvel comics and the respective creators.

Why I started doing all of these variants is because I really enjoy this game. When I looked at Marvel Legendary page on this site an how robust their variant section is with customs...it made me want to make more for this game. This game is built for a rich customs system.

Today's is October 31st 2016 and I believe we needed the most important (and overhyped) Marvel Horror property to date, Marvel Zombies.

The Marvel Zombies Mini Expansion is based off of the Blackest Night cards. Not a copy but inspired by and modeled after.

First is the Marvel Zombie cards themselves. These are grow in strength the more you resist them.

Just like the Blackest Night cards the individually named Marvel Zombies have ascending cost. I also had fun being creative with the art work.

could you beat the combined might of the universe traveling Marvel Zombies team with the undead from the Blackest Night?
